How It All Began

It started with a set of egg coddlers.

Back in 2012, my wife and I were browsing a little antiques fair in the countryside — nothing serious, just a weekend wander. We weren't collectors. We weren't dealers. We were just two people who liked old things and the stories they carried.

Then she picked up a pair of Royal Worcester egg coddlers. Blue and white, slightly chipped, clearly well-loved by someone before us. She turned them over in her hands, read the backstamp, and said "These should be in a home where they'll actually get used — not stuck in a display cabinet."

We bought them for a few pounds. Took them home. Had soft-boiled eggs in them the next morning. And something clicked.

That was the moment Totalrewind was born — though we didn't know it yet.

Travelling the Country

What started as a casual browse turned into a proper passion. Weekend markets became early-morning boot sales. Boot sales became auctions. Auctions became estate sales, clearance houses, and tiny pottery shops tucked away in places you'd never find unless you were looking.

We've driven the length and breadth of the country looking for stock — from the potteries of Stoke-on-Trent to coastal car-boot sales in Cornwall, from dusty antique barns in Yorkshire to vintage fairs in the Midlands. We've been rained on, frozen, got lost down country lanes, and more than once driven home with the car so full of pottery that we couldn't see out of the rear window.

But every journey has been worth it. Because every piece we find has a story — and we love being the ones who give it a next chapter.

What We Look For

We don't just buy anything. We're picky — and we're proud of it.

We look for:

• •Character over perfection — a chip or a craze line tells us a piece has been lived with and loved
• •Quality makers — Denby, Royal Worcester, Booths, Hornsea, Masons, Kilncraft, and other great names of British pottery
• •Pieces you'll actually use — cups that feel right in your hand, bowls you'll eat cereal from, plates that make a Sunday dinner look proper
• •The unusual and the forgotten — the patterns and makers that don't make the headline auctions but deserve a home nonetheless

How We Care for Each Piece

Every single item that comes to us gets the same treatment — whether it cost £2 or £200.

First, we clean it. Properly. No harsh chemicals, no dishwashers — just warm soapy water, a soft cloth, and patience. We check for hairline cracks, chips, and crazing. We photograph every piece from multiple angles so what you see is exactly what you get — no surprises, no hidden damage.

Then comes the packing. This is where we're probably more careful than we need to be — but we'd rather over-pack than have something arrive broken.

• •Each piece is wrapped individually in tissue paper and bubble wrap
• •Fragile items are double-boxed with void fill
• •Every package is sealed securely and marked fragile
• •We use tracked delivery so you can follow your parcel's journey to your door

We treat every piece as if we were sending it to our own mum. Because honestly? We probably are.

Why We Do This

We're not trying to build an empire. We're not chasing the rarest, most expensive pieces. We're two people who believe that beautiful, well-made homewares shouldn't be locked away in museums or glass cabinets — they should be in your kitchen, on your dinner table, in your daily life.

The Denby cup you have your morning coffee from. The Royal Worcester dish you serve a Sunday roast in. The Kilncraft plate that makes a slice of toast feel a bit more special. That's what it's all about.

Vintage doesn't have to be precious. It just has to be loved.
